The Uplands was designed as a garden suburb of Victoria in the early 20th century. The 465 acre area has separate bylaws and its own design panel for renovations and new buildings. The large, sweeping garden lots are meticulously maintained and the homes are a beautiful mix of architectural heritage and custom designed homes that fit into the neighbourhood. Larger lots and larger homes account for the higher sale prices in the municipality.

Within the neighbourhood is Uplands Park, a 76 acre parcel of undeveloped landscape - a contrast to the well-manicured gardens of the Uplands. Garry Oak meadows and rare plant species grow throughout the park. Birdwatchers and those out to enjoy the walking trails find the park a true breath of fresh air. Along the ocean front of this region lies Willows Beach, Cattle Point Star Park and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. The neighbourhood also backs onto the Uplands Golf Course and the University of Victoria’s green space.
