Within the neighbourhood is Uplands Park, a 76 acre parcel of undeveloped landscape - a contrast to the well-manicured gardens of the Uplands. Garry Oak meadows and rare plant species grow throughout the park. Birdwatchers and those out to enjoy the walking trails find the park a true breath of fresh air. Along the oceanfront of this region lies Willows Beach, Cattle Point Star Park and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. The neighbourhood also backs onto the Uplands Golf Course and the University of Victoria’s green space.

South Oak Bay begins where Beach Drive meets the sea at McNeill Bay. Many character homes and cottages are still standing amid the newly built modern homes in this neighbourhood. The oceanfront border of South Oak Bay is home to the beautiful and historic Victoria Golf Club, the Oak Bay Beach Hotel and the Oak Bay Marina.

Within the hamlet of South Oak Bay, there are several parks, including Windsor Park, which is a hub for athletic, social and family activity. Monterey School and St. Michael’s Junior School are the schools in this area. Smaller commercial pockets at Central Avenue and St. Patrick Street, at McNeill Avenue and Roslyn Road, and at Windsor Road and Newport Avenue add local interest and attraction to the area. 

Along Oak Bay Avenue, the neighbourhood border shared with North Oak Bay, is the municipality’s commercial centre, referred to as “the village”.  The municipal hall, the library and another recreation centre, the Monterey Centre, are all in South Oak Bay at the village.
